Lizi - on Ironman
Hi all... just a word from me to all of you who are on your first attempt at achieving your Ironman status.
As some of you might know i am girlfriend to a 5 time ironman finisher *grin and very proud of him*, i believe that i understand what it is like to embark on this what they call "The Toughest Show on Earth". He is of average time.. not under 12, not under 13 but yes under 14 was his best time. Being a spectator for that few ironman races, i must admit that it is a grueling journey (for the participant as well as a spectator). I have seen too much pain for those who cut out mid way of the race.
On the day of the race, The body, the mind, the spirit, the course, the weather, the nutrition, the hydration ... these are all equally important. None is least important than the other and all of you must remember that.
Despite having said that, my boyfriend always reminds me... that the ultimate key to it all his races is the CONSISTENT FOOD INTAKE and HYDRATION. With his very very minimal training for his ironman races (like maybe 1 long run, 1 swim session and No long bike ride), he relies on the consistent food intake and hydration to see him through and these 2 factors have never let him down in all of his 5 ironman races. He finishes his races strong!! As some of our friends who have embarked on this journey first time this year asked him on the most important factor to remember while out on the race course... his only, most emphasized reminder is CONSISTENT FOOD INTAKE and HYDRATION and this is why i would like to share it with you (though some might think otherwise)
Remember, when the mind and the body takes the beating, it is only your soaring spirit that will take you to the skies... so hold on there and please do not forget another important element ... to REST WELL.
As I will be there as a spectator and as a supporter for Ironman 2008, if any of you need me to help you guys with anything on your race day... just let me know ya.
All the best to all of you and will be eargerly awaiting to see all of you approaching the finishing line ...
crossing it with a big smile on your faces and your arms stretched towards the skies in a victorious finish!!
All the best!
Lizi
